Fear Street: Prom Queen – Picture: Netflix
Welcome back to another top 10 report, where we’re covering six of the biggest stories from the most recent drop of data, courtesy of the Netflix top 10 site. The biggest stories pertain to the two big new English-language releases: Sirens and Fear Street: Prom Queen.
If you missed our report last week, we covered BET, Bad Thoughts, and Love, Death and Robots all having terrible launches, and that’s continued now into their second weeks.
Note: In this report of Netflix’s hours viewed from May 19th, 2025, to May 25th, 2025, we’ll use “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours viewed announced by Netflix by the runtime of films or series. It allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last of the film or season.
1. Fear Street: Prom Queen takes the crown
After the (very good) Fear Street film trilogy was released in the summer of 2021, Netflix took its time before greenlighting a new movie in the franchise, but here we are, nearly four years later, with the release of Fear Street: Prom Queen. While it isn’t a direct sequel, the film does incorporate a few subtle elements from the original trilogy. More importantly, though, it never quite reaches the quality of the first three films.

So, how did it perform at launch? With 10.7M EVCs in its first three days, it’s far from being Netflix’s best film debut of the year. However, if there’s one genre that consistently hits a performance ceiling on Netflix, it’s horror, and that trend holds true again. When comparing the new film’s launch to that of the original trilogy (with its three installments released weekly over three weeks), Fear Street: Prom Queen actually scores the best opening among all four films with 10.7M CVEs over its first three days.
Perhaps enough to encourage Netflix to keep digging further into the Fear Street vein, although one could also argue that this strong launch reflects the positive reception of the original trilogy, and that with an average IMDb rating of 5.2/10, Fear Street: Prom Queen may have just dealt a heavy blow to the franchise, which would be a real shame.
2. Untold: Hall of Favre
A new week, a new Untold documentary in the world of sports, and the latest one focuses on Brett Favre, a controversial NFL star. Naturally, the NFL angle slightly limits the documentary’s appeal, but it still manages a solid launch with 6.8M CVEs in its first six days, making it rank fourth on our dataset, ahead of Malice at the Palace but behind Johnny Football and The Murder of Air McNair.
3. Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds
It’s not all true crime on Netflix — there are also documentaries about elite pilot squadrons. But it’s clear that this type of content draws far less attention from Netflix audiences, as Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds had a very modest launch, with just 3.8M CVEs in its first three days, less than the launch of a documentary dedicated to your gut. Your gut!
4. Off Track 2 gets sidetracked
Did the Swedish film Off Track really need a sequel? Probably not, judging by the very weak launch of its follow-up, which drew only 1.2M CVEs in its first three days. Now, the first one only made it into the Top 10 for its second week, but that was during another era of the Top 10 when it was calculated in hours viewed.
5. Sirens enchants
There’s nothing like Julianne Moore and the lives of the ultra-wealthy to draw in viewers, and the lure of that siren song worked well, as the high-end miniseries Sirens launched with 16.7M CVEs in its first four days. That makes it the second-best debut of the year for a new American Netflix series, just behind Zero Day.
6. She, no people.
Released on the same day, Tyler Perry’s She the People is a much less convincing case, as the political sitcom launched with half the viewership of Tyler Perry’s previous Netflix series, Beauty in Black, 2.7M CVEs vs. 5.6M in its first four days. The second part of the season is set to drop in a few weeks, but things aren’t looking too promising.
That’s all for this week. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below.
