‘Ferris Bueller's Day Off’ Actress Reveals Film's Most Famous Line Wasn't in the Original Script

15 June 20252 Mins Read

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a legendary ’80s classic coming-of-age movie that continues to entertain decades after its release. We’re still learning about the iconic film, and recently, Cindy Pickett, who played Ferris Bueller’s mom, Kate Bueller, shared another interesting tidbit about what almost didn’t make it into the film.

Pickett was among the actors from the John Hughes hit who attended a panel at The Hollywood Show on Friday, June 6, to discuss the famous film, including working with Hughes and Ferris Bueller’s impact on pop culture.

The popular ’80s actress, who also had roles in St. Elsewhere and Call to Glory, revealed that the quote at the end of the movie, where Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is lying in bed after barely escaping getting caught by his mom, was a last-minute addition to the script.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,” Bueller says as he lies back in bed, talking to the camera.

“The last line of the movie, ‘Life moves pretty fast,’ he just threw that in,” Pickett revealed. “It’s not in the original script. He just threw that in. So yeah, he had the best time.”

The movie’s most famous line wasn’t even in the plan, proving just how much of a filmmaking genius Hughes was.
