Matthew Goode will return as Detective Carl Morck in a brand new and exciting season of Dept. Q. Filming is to get underway in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July 2026 and run until December 2026. Here’s everything we know so far about Dept. Q season 2 on Netflix.
Dept. Q is a Netflix Original crime-thriller series developed by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani. The series is an English adaptation of the beloved Department Q novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Scott Frank has also confirmed he will return to direct the second season of Dept. Q:
“I’m grateful to the folks at Netflix, as well as our shining cast and crew, for once more risking their careers to enable my folly.”
The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, with Scott Frank, Andy Harries, and Rob Bullock serving as executive producers.

Rob Bullock of Left Bank Pictures had the following to say about the upcoming second season:
“So, we are going downstairs to Dept. Q for a second season. We at Left Bank Pictures nervously await what Scott has in store for his alter-ego Carl Morck, and the other enabling members of team do-lally. We salute Netflix’s courage to let them loose once again.”
What to expect from Dept. Q season 2?
Carl Morck, with the help of his cold case colleagues, successfully rescued Merritt Lingard from her kidnappers, the Jennings family. With that case solved, Morck and the rest of the department will move on to a new cold case. Additionally, Morck remains convinced that the Leith Park shooting, which resulted in the death of an officer, an informant, and nearly killed his partner, was not a random hit but a brutal, coordinated attack involving the gangster Eugene Errington.
We would expect the Leith Park shooting to be the case that continues to hang over Morck’s head throughout season 2; however, the series could go in multiple directions thanks to the available source material.
- Disgrace (Fasandræberne) – Follows an old double murder tied to wealthy schoolboys turned powerful men
- Redemption (Flaskepost fra P) –
- Guilty (Journal 64) – Covers state-run abuse programs and institutional cruelty, which fits in with season 1’s themes of care home exploitation and buried trauma
- Buried (Marco Effekten) – A runaway boy uncovers financial crimes and human trafficking
- The Hanging Girl (Den Grænseløse) – A shocking case involving a seventeen-year-old girl who vanished from school. Only to be found dead hanging high up in a tree.
- The Scarred Woman (Selfies) – Carl and Department Q come under pressure to solve a murder case of an elderly woman, which bears a striking resemblance to another unsolved homicide from over a decade ago.
- Victim 2117 (Offer 2117) – A deeply personal case for a member of Department Q, whose link to Victim 2117, the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea, reveals dark secrets about his past, and the family who long assumed him dead.
- The Shadow Murders (Natrium Chlorid) – The suicide of a 60-year-old woman unveils a link to a series of murders committed every 2 years for the past three decades.
- Locked In (Syv m2 med Lås) – The final entry of the Department Q novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
With no shortage of source material, we can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
Who are the cast members of Dept. Q season 2?
It has already been confirmed that Matthew Goode will return as Detective Carl Morck, and will be joined by fellow cast members Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy.
