Filming Begins & What Else We Know So Far

Filming is underway on Tyler Perry’s brand new firefighting procedural drama series for Netflix, Where There’s Smoke. We have the full cast and confirmation that the series will have 16 one-hour-long episodes. Here’s everything we know so far about Where There’s Smoke on Netflix.

Where There’s Smoke is an upcoming Netflix Original procedural drama series written, directed, and created by Tyler Perry. Since Netflix signed a multi-year first-look series deal with Perry, shows such as Miss Governor, Beauty in Black, which was renewed for a third season, and movies Mea Culpa, Six Triple Eight, Straw, and multiple Madea films have been released on the streaming service.

Tyler Perry is the executive producer of the series through his own production, Tyler Perry Studios, with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also producing. 


What is the plot of Where There’s Smoke?

Netflix has provided a logline for Where There’s Smoke:

“Tyler Perry’s Where There’s Smoke” follows the lives of a group of firefighters as they navigate the intense challenges of their high-stakes profession while grappling with personal struggles, fractured relationships, and the emotional toll of saving lives in a world filled with danger, drama, and heartbreak.


Who are the cast members of Where There’s Smoke?

Netflix has unveiled the cast members of Where There’s Smoke, with plenty of familiar faces from previous Tyler Perry productions:

  • Tyler Lepley (Ruth & Boaz, Tyler Perry’s Duplicity, Harlem) will play Owen.
  • Mike Merrill (STRAW, The Black Hamptons) will play Cameron.
  • Da’Vinchi (BMF, All American) will play Noah.
  • Eltony Williams (If Loving You is Wrong, Designated Survivor) will play Jermaine.
  • Brock O’Hurn (The Righteous Gemstones, Euphoria) will play Ethan.
  • Joe Hunter (Survivor Season 48 & Survivor Season 50) will play Chief Bailey.
  • Karen Obilom (House Party, Doom Patrol, Chicago PD) will play Laura.
  • Brittany S. Hall (Finding Joy, Ballers) will play Angela.
  • Mariah Goodie (Be Someone, The Message and the Messenger) will play Rhonda.
  • Jordan Rodriguez (Here Comes the Flood, Jane the Virgin, Awkward) will play Brent.
  • Judi Moon (What Love Will Make You Do, Last Love) will play Darcy.

There is no official Netflix release date for Where There’s Smoke. With filming underway, it’s most likely we’ll see a 2027 release.
