Netflix has just released its new teen ice-skating series, based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s book. Headlined by Madelyn Keys and Cale Ambrozic, the series premiered globally on the streamer on January 22nd, 2026. Here’s everything you need to know.

The eight-episode first season, with episodes running approximately 44 minutes each, was first unveiled in early 2025. Production began in mid-February 2025 in Barrie, Orillia, and surrounding communities in Ontario and wrapped by May.

Netflix was originally due to broadcast the series alongside Family Channel in Canada, the network owned by WildBrain. However, as confirmed over the Summer and coming into effect as of October 2025, the network has permanently shut down alongside three others as its distribution deals had been ended. We can also reveal the series will be aired in Canada on Radio-Canada and its respective streaming service.

What is the plot of Finding Her Edge?

Set in the glamorous and competitive world of figure skating, Finding Her Edge is a story of love, dedication, sacrifice, and redemption. The series follows the three Russo sisters, heirs to a struggling skating dynasty.

At the center of the story is 17-year-old Adriana Russo, the middle sister, who is training for the World Championships with a new partner, Brayden, while still harboring feelings for her former partner and first love, Freddie.

Her life becomes complicated when she and Brayden pretend to be a couple off the ice to secure a crucial sponsorship. As they fake romance to keep the financially struggling Russo rink afloat, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur.

Finding Her Edge Cast: Meet Team Russo

The series features a large ensemble cast led by Madelyn Keys, Cale Ambrozic, and Olly Atkins. Here is the full breakdown of the main characters with descriptions courtesy of Netflix:

  • Madelyn Keys as Adriana Russo: The middle sister of the Russo skating dynasty. She’s scrappy, determined, and resilient, with the weight of the world on her shoulders and a latent fire in her belly waiting to be unleashed when she returns to the ice.
  • Cale Ambrozic as Brayden Elliot: Confident, brash, and achingly handsome. A supremely talented ice dancer whose partner recently quit the sport, Brayden is a hot commodity and he knows it. He’s a bit of a showboat and a sore loser, but he’s also got the talent to back it up.
  • Olly Atkins as Freddie O’Connell: Sincere, stoic, and kind. He was totally blind-sided when Adriana stopped skating with him, suddenly cutting him out of a family he felt was his own. But upon returning to Russo Rink, Freddie can’t fight the feelings of attraction and deep love for Adriana.
  • Alexandra Beaton as Elise Russo: The eldest of the three Russo daughters, Elise is the centre of the Russo skating dynasty. She’s proud, a fierce competitor, and often careless with others’ feelings, but finds herself unsure of her place in the world outside of skating.
  • Alice Malakhov as Maria Russo: Quirky, quick, and a bit of a rebel, Maria is the youngest of the three Russo sisters. Maria has spent her childhood trying to keep up with her sisters, but she’s beginning to question her path.
  • Harmon Walsh as Will Russo: An Olympic champion whose charm, good looks and athleticism can dazzle on and off the ice. He is trying his best to run the rink, coach champions, and raise three teenage daughters, but is flailing underneath the polished veneer.

Rounding out the cast are:

  • Meredith Forlenza (Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent)
  • Niko Ceci (I Woke Up a Vampire)
  • Millie Davis (The Umbrella Academy)
  • Sean Miko Chen
  • Yona Epstein-Roth
  • Miley Haik
  • Aidan Shaw
  • Nicole Volossetski

Production Team Behind Finding Her Edge

The series is led by showrunner and executive producer Jeff Norton (Geek Girl, The Small Hand), who noted he was thrilled to bring Iacopelli’s Austen-inspired novel to the screen.

  • Directors: Shamim Sarif (You, The Way Home) and Jacqueline Pepall (Horrible Histories).
  • Writers: Head writer Shelley Scarrow (Wynonna Earp), with Sabrina Sherif, Jeff Norton, and Jacqueline Pepall.
  • Executive Producers: Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts, and Angela Boudreault for WildBrain.

Finding Her Edge marks the latest collaboration between WildBrain and Netflix, following past live-action and animated projects such as Degrassi: Next Class, I Woke Up a Vampire, Sonic Prime, and Carmen Sandiego.

Let’s round out our preview with the official trailer and some first-look stills that have been released over the past few months.
