Fire and Ash is finally heading to Disney Plus in June

12 May 20262 Mins Read

Pandora is officially heading home. Announced Tuesday, Avatar: Fire and Ash will begin streaming on Disney Plus starting June 27, bringing James Cameron’s latest sci-fi epic to audiences after its extended theatrical run.

The film is the third chapter in Cameron’s long-running Avatar saga, continuing the story of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the fractured Na’vi clans scattered across the lush planet of Pandora following 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Unlike its predecessor, which centered on oceanic tribes and family survival, Fire and Ash pushes the franchise into darker territory, introducing the volcanic Ash Clan and exploring how grief, war, and survival reshape Pandora’s spiritual world.

At the box office, Fire and Ash secured $1.486 billion, making it the lowest-grossing film in Cameron’s Avatar series despite crossing the billion mark. It’s one of the more fascinating elements behind the release, as the numbers prove Avatar still generates colossal box-office returns without dominating online fandom discourse in the same way Marvel or Star Wars do.

Even as debates around franchise fatigue grow louder, James Cameron’s sci-fi saga continues to accomplish what few modern series can: turning original cinematic world-building into billion-dollar event filmmaking. Cameron’s ambition for the franchise will only continue to be tested in the fourth and fifth Avatar films, which are set to delve deeper into Na’vi cultures, explore an escalating war among clans, and visit all-new regions.

The arrival of Fire and Ash on Disney Plus marks the latest step in Disney’s broader efforts to position Avatar as one of the company’s core long-running franchises alongside Marvel and Star Wars. The streaming release gives audiences another opportunity to revisit Pandora ahead of Avatar 4, which is currently scheduled for release in 2029.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer: Fire and Ash arrives on Disney Plus in June, giving audiences another chance to revisit Pandora and assess the next turning point in Cameron’s epic sci-fi saga.
