Former Country Music Couple Reunite in the Studio 2 Years After Their Divorce: ‘We Back’

Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd are back in the music studio together following their divorce.

The Grammy winner, 35, and the “Diamonds or Twine” singer, 39, seemingly hinted at an upcoming collaboration when she posted an Instagram Story photo on Friday, January 23. While Morris appeared to be behind the camera, Hurd held a microphone and wore headphones as producer Jon Green worked on a laptop nearby.

She captioned the picture, “We back.”

Morris and Hurd met during a 2013 co-writing session for Tim McGraw’s song “Last Turn Home.” They struck up a romance two years later. After tying the knot in March 2018 and welcoming son Hayes in March 2020, Morris filed for divorce in October 2023. She and Hurd finalized the proceedings the following January.

During their relationship, Morris and Hurd frequently made music together, including their Grammy-nominated 2021 duet, “Chasing After You.”

In August 2024, Morris reflected on the songs in her catalog that Hurd contributed to and inspired.

“I don’t really look back on them with shame or regret,” she told People at the time. “It’s like, ‘That was a really beautiful time, and I truly felt that way when I wrote it; it didn’t work out in the long run, but the song still matters.’”

The following month, Morris—who came out as bisexual in June 2024—offered insight into her post-divorce dynamic with Hurd.

“I mean, we’re getting it together, but the co-parenting thing has been going well, and we’re trying our best in this way, but it’s still pretty fresh,” she said on the “Armchair Expert” podcast in September 2024.

Morris later revealed that she and Hurd live five minutes from each other in Nashville, Tennessee, which allows them to co-parent more seamlessly.

“Our stops are really easy, and we’ll have family dinners,” she told The Zoe Report in May 2025.

The following month, Morris elaborated on her friendly rapport with Hurd.

“We’re neighbors, and I’m so fortunate that we have put our son above each other’s s–t,” she said on the “Dear Chelsea” podcast in June 2025. “It’s better for the two of us if we’re getting along, as well as co-parenting our son.”

Despite remaining cordial for their son’s sake, Morris explained the bittersweet aspect of her ongoing relationship with Hurd.

“I’m lucky that we love each other so much still, and we have the highest respect,” she added. “But also, there is that devastation that two people that love each other that much can’t make it work in the real world.”

Morris noted that the situation will always be “multifaceted,” concluding, “I think ultimately we both knew it was probably gonna be better this way—which is a success.”
