Fred Armisen’s Upcoming Release Is His Funniest Yet — and Fans Love It

6 August 20253 Mins Read

Fred Armisen has never shied away from embracing the wonderfully weird — and his latest project is no exception.

The Saturday Night Live alum appeared onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening to discuss his role as Uncle Fester in Season 2 of Netflix’s hit dark comedy Wednesday, Part 1 of which was released on Wednesday. He also promoted his upcoming vinyl album, 100 Sound Effects, which is set to be released in September.

“I was thinking about those Halloween sound effect albums then, I sort of missed them,” the 58-year-old comedian admitted. “And then I thought, ‘Oh! I should make one.'”

100 Sound Effects is a collection of 100 random sounds, with a range from basic noises, such as “Wine Glass Breaking,” to very niche sound effects that one would not encounter on a daily basis, like “Terrified Audience at an Authoritarian Nation Official Event.”

Colbert even played some of the sound effects for the audience, including “Romanian Crowd at Rock Club Shouting for an Encore,” “Music Venue Employee Kicking Everyone Out While Throwing Away Bottles,” “Car Door Closing Car Rental” and “Sparsely Attended Show Encore with Someone Shouting ‘Where’s Jim?’,” which recieved many laughs from the audience.

“It’s a party album,” Armisen joked.

Fans were quick to share their reactions online, with many in the TikTok comment section finding the comedian’s latest project both hilarious and delightfully on-brand.

One fan wrote, “Fred Armisen is the funniest person alive.”

“My favorite thing about Fred is he COMMITS to the bit. Runs the joke into the ground,” a fan said. “Absolutely hilarious.”

“Fred Armisen is an artistic genius,” another commented. “He is next level with Banksy, but a little more accessible to the mass audience.”

“no more brat summer. it’s 100 sound effects by fred armisen summer,” a fan commented, referring to Charli xcx’s hit album brat that took over pop culture last summer.

One joked, “peak use of free will.”

“He’s really a comedic genius,” another wrote.

“The embodiment of meta humor,” one commented. “Love it.”

100 Sound Effects will be available for purchase starting September 26 at various record stores and on Amazon for $28.99. Meanwhile, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs every weeknight on CBS at 11:35 p.m. ET.
