Canada Day is just around the corner, and we’re here to list out some great options in terms of free entertainment. From free shows all day long at this year’s Vancouver International Jazz Fest to Canada Together at Canada Place, to a slew of fireworks, here are some of the best ways to celebrate Canada Day in Metro Vancouver this year.
The 39th annual Canada Together event is the largest Canada Day celebration outside of Ottawa, and this year’s festivities will be tied together under the theme of “weaving together the fabric of a nation.” Visitors can expect live music across multiple stages, a Kids’ Zone, a Port Community Zone, a new Indigenous Marketplace, food trucks, and more.

This year’s Vancouver International Jazz Fest has dozens of free and pay-what-you-can shows across the city, and on Canada Day, all of the performances at Ocean Artworks on Granville Island are free to enjoy. The day kicks off with a performance by the Evan Arntzen Quartet with special guest Lloyd Arntzen, and ends with one by the Cowboy Bebop Bebop Band.

Canada Day in Coquitlam returns to Town Centre Park with a range of entertainment, multicultural performances, fireworks, food, and free and family-friendly fun.
Fireworks start at 10 p.m.

Where: 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
Cost: Free admission
Surrey’s Canada Day festivities will take place at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre, with live music all day across the stages: the Prospera Main Stage, Siam Stage, KPU Community Stage, and the Streetside Family Stage.
There will also be an array of food trucks, rides, and family activities, and no tickets are necessary.

John Lawson Park in West Vancouver is transforming for Canada Day with food vendors, live music, and family fun, including the following events:
- 4 to 8:30 p.m. – Kids’ zone
- 4:30 p.m. – Official ceremony
- 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. – West Vancouver Youth Band (WVYB) performance
- 5:30 to 9 p.m. – a performance from the Vancouver band Trilojay

The Township of Langley is hosting a pet-friendly Canada Day celebration at McLeod Athletic Park, featuring live music by bands such as Orchard Sky, live circus acts, and concluding with an evening drone show. There will also be a Kids Zone with free bouncy castles, games, face painting, crafts, and more.
And for the adults, there will be local breweries in attendance in addition to a range of food trucks and local artisans.

And now, we circle back to Granville Island for another lively celebration. Hosted in the new Chain & Forge outdoor space, the festivities include live music, dance classes, kids’ activities, and an official Canada Day Ceremony with the anthem and free cake for all attendees. Visitors who head to Granville Island early can also check out the annual water ballet performance by the False Creek Ferries fleet from 7:20 a.m. to 8 a.m.
