FREE outdoor movies are returning to Downtown Vancouver this summer

5 June 20252 Mins Read

Summer Movie Nights is returning for its sixth year, transforming the heart of downtown Vancouver into an open-air theatre. And this year, there’s even more than movies to look forward to!

The free events will take place every Thursday from July 3 to August 14 at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza).

Each evening kicks off at 5 p.m., when, as a warm-up to each movie, there will be activities such as face painting, dancers, circus performers, DJs, mini golf, and more. Then, as the sun sets — which is usually around 9 p.m. — the feature film will be played on 33-foot inflatable screen.

All seven nights will also include pre-screening interactive trivia led by IQ 2000 Trivia, live music by DJ Chip$, and MC’ing by comedian and Canada’s Got Talent star Ola Dada.

Need a snack? A range of local street food and beverage options, including Gary’s Kettle Corn and Oddity Kombucha, will be onsite to keep your taste buds happy.

And while you’re at it, don’t forget to snap a free keepsake at the Moonlit Memories Photo Booth and say hi to everyone’s favourite mascot, Poppy!

Free seating is available, but it’s first come, first serve — so if you’re not arriving early, make sure to bring your own chairs and blankets. And remember: when the sun goes down, the temp drops too, so dress warmly!

Movies schedule

  • July 3 – Bring It On
  • July 10 – The Wild Robot
  • July 18 – Little Women (2019)
  • July 24 – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
  • July 31 – The Wizard of Oz
  • August 7 – Wicked
  • August 14 – Inception
