The Princess Bride. When Harry Met Sally. A Few Good Men.
Rob Reiner—who along with his wife, Michele, were found dead this past weekend—directed some classic films. The Princess Bride might be one of my all-time favorites. And as such, I’m still reeling from Reiner’s unexpected death—and shocked at the manner of his passing.
Hollywood’s known for its happy endings. But real life? Here on earth? Those Princess Bride endings can be harder to come by. As Christians, we know we have our happily ever after secured. But our earthly paths are not so certain.
Plugged In had a chance to talk with Rob Reiner in 2010, after he released his PG family film Flipped. Former Plugged In editor Bob Smithouser talked with Reiner about the film, but they also touched on politics, too—and the power that movies have to sometimes bring people together.
“I’ve tried to make films that are about real people going through real situations,” Reiner says in the interview. “Most of the films are about human beings experiencing things that we all experience.” With Bob Smithouser’s permission, we repost the audio interview here.
