From costumes to decor, here are all the Halloween items currently at Dollarama (PHOTOS), Life in canada

24 September 20255 Mins Read

Walk into a Dollarama in Montreal these days, and it’s hard to believe how far a so-called “dollar store” has stretched. What used to feel like a quick stop for batteries, dish soap, or off-brand chocolate bars has slowly turned into a place where you can find just about everything. Need a mop? Check. Snacks for the road? Done. A full set of dishes and glasses? Somehow, yes.

And when a holiday rolls around, the store leans all the way in. Right now, the aisles are packed with Halloween gear: costumes, decorations, candy buckets, and a few things that make you stop and wonder who decided this was spooky enough to sell.

We walked the aisles to see exactly what’s on the shelves this year. Here’s a look at the best (and weirdest) Halloween finds at Dollarama right now.

Costumes

Halloween costumes are anything but cheap these days. Sure, you can always make your own with stuff lying around the house, but Dollarama has leaned into the budget-friendly option by filling racks with ready-to-go outfits.

There are superhero capes with matching masks for kids who want to save the day, classic black cloaks that instantly turn you into a vampire or wizard, and even pirate hats if you’re going the swashbuckler route.

Pets aren’t left out either. There’s a small but adorable section of dog costumes on the shelf.

If you’re just looking to throw something together at the last minute, the wall of masks has you covered. From creepy clowns and gas masks to furry blue monsters and devil faces, it’s basically a full lineup of nightmare fuel (not counting Spider-Man)

If you’re really looking to sell it, the store carries a range of plastic weapons to go along with your slasher ensemble.

There are also goofy headbands, glasses, colourful wigs, and bunny ears for anyone aiming for cute over scary. And of course, no costume aisle would be complete without the paint and fake blood kits to pull it all together.

Decor

Dollarama’s Halloween decor section is wild this year. A quick (and cheap) trip to the store could turn your apartment, porch, or front yard into a haunted house with minimal effort.

If you’re hosting a party, there are endless themed cups, ice cube trays, and wine glasses, some shaped like skeleton hands or skulls. Tablecloths, plates, and napkins covered in bats and pumpkins are stacked by the dozen, ready to kit out a last-minute gathering.

For actual spook factor, the shelves are loaded with fake skeletons (from tiny skulls to full hanging figures), bloodied plastic hands, and foam tombstones that scream “DIY graveyard.” You’ll also find chains, faux cobwebs, and giant glittery spiders if you’re going for more of a creepy-crawly vibe.

Not everything leans scary, though. There are colourful hanging ghosts, felt pumpkin cutouts, and goofy “BOO” signs that feel more cute than chilling. Throw pillows with orange jack-o’-lanterns and skeleton prints even make it into the lineup, because apparently Halloween home decor is a thing now.

And if you’re just after something simple, Dollarama’s shelves are stacked with candles, lanterns, and light-up pumpkins that actually look decent enough to toss on a windowsill and call it festive.

Other finds

Beyond costumes and decor, Dollarama’s Halloween aisles are full of random treasures (and oddities) that don’t quite fit in one category.

For one, there’s a screaming doormat sensor that goes off with evil laughs and creaky sound effects, making for the kind of trick that’ll either get a laugh or make your neighbours hate you.

You’ll also find a full lineup of trick-or-treat gear for kids. Beyond the classic orange pumpkin pails, there are shiny holographic buckets, mini cauldrons with skeleton hands, and reusable tote bags with cats, ghosts, and skeletons that look like they belong in a cartoon. It’s a big upgrade from the old pillowcase method.

For the crafty folks out there, there are DIY ghost kits and paint-your-own decorations that can keep kids (or bored adults) entertained for a while. And tucked between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Dollarama even sneaks in Halloween greeting cards.

Saying Dollarama goes hard for Halloween might be an understatement. And if you’re on a budget, it’s honestly tough to beat. From full-on costumes to quirky props, there’s enough here to cover both a party and your trick-or-treat run. Just keep in mind that not every store stocks the same items (some locations might have more variety, while others carry a little less).

But hey, that’s part of the fun (and the gamble) of wandering the aisles.
