From repurposed ornaments to life-sized nutcrackers, readers share their favourite holiday decorations | Canada Voices

19 December 202512 Mins Read

Snow has blanketed much of the country, The Grinch is playing on TV and speakers everywhere are blasting Michael Bublé – it’s official, the holiday season is here. And while families are preparing their meals and organizing their gatherings, they’re also pulling out their boxes of beloved holiday decorations, meticulously collected over years of celebrations.

We asked readers to share their favourite and most cherished holiday decorations. You told us about gifts from loved ones you’ve kept over the years, decorations that hold special memories and kooky knick-knacks that liven up your home (we’re looking at you, crocodile in high heels). Here’s what you shared with us.

The neighbours say Christmas doesn’t start until they see them. I guess we like the “classics” – I have my 1960 Lionel train circling under the Christmas tree (but that’s another story).”]

The price had started at $16.99, then it went down to $8.99, then to $4.99, and finally it was $2.99. He felt akin to this rejected piece of merchandise. So he bought it! He set it up on the windowsill of his apartment, and enjoyed the glowing lights in the houses and the church. And so it became his annual Christmas tradition.”]
