A new report from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Trip.com Group reveals that the travel and tourism industry is on the cusp of a significant digital transformation driven by AI, sustainable travel solutions, and breakthrough innovations.
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Trip.com Group have recently presented an impactful report titled “Technology Game Changers: Future Trends in Travel & Tourism” at the ITB Berlin event. The report delves into the 16 transformative technologies destined to revolutionize the travel and tourism sector, grouped into four major trends: Digital Technologies, Financial Technologies, Future of Mobility, and Breakthrough Innovations.
The report predicts that by the end of this decade, AI technologies will not only automate travel searches and bookings but also possess the capacity to match human intelligence across many tasks, thus transforming the landscape of Travel & Tourism as we know it. Alongside this, quantum computing is set to solve complex problems, from optimizing global air traffic to unlocking the potential of space travel and deep-sea tourism.
Moreover, supersonic flight is anticipated to make a remarkable comeback, with Boom Technology and United planning to transport passengers at high speeds within the next four years. Concurrently, smart cities with autonomous cars and advanced air mobility are expected to reshape popular tourist destinations, providing access to previously unreachable locations and redefining the tourist experience.

1. AI Revolutionizing Travel – 94% of industry leaders see AI as mission-critical. AI-powered assistants like Trip.com’s TripGenie saw a 200% surge in usage in 2024, revolutionizing trip planning and customer experiences.
2. Super Apps Redefining Seamless Travel – A survey of 8,000 travelers found 97% want a single platform integrating flights, hotels, activities, and payments, for a frictionless journey.
3. Greener Travel Takes Off – From Virgin Atlantic’s first-ever 100% sustainable fuel transatlantic flight, to Port Miami’s expansion of shore power, the Travel & Tourism sector is advancing towards a more sustainable future.
4. Space Tourism Lifts Off – Once a distant dream, commercial space travel is rapidly approaching reality, with infrastructure and demand accelerating at an unprecedented pace.
