Game Dev Tycoon Latest Mobile Game to Depart from Netflix’s Library

Netflix’s mobile gaming library is shedding another high-profile title next month. Game Dev Tycoon, the business strategy simulation game, is scheduled to depart the service on March 11, 2026.

Users with the app installed are now seeing notifications indicating that the last day to play the title is March 10, 2026. After this date, the specific Netflix application will likely become unplayable, displaying a “Not Available” message upon launch, or it will be removed from your device entirely, depending on your settings.

This marks the second major removal in 2026, following Tomb Raider: Reloaded’s departure in February. 2025 was the first year we saw an exodus of games from the mobile games library, with dozens of games departing, including high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

What is Game Dev Tycoon?

Developed by Greenheart Games, Game Dev Tycoon was a significant addition to the Netflix roster when it joined the service in March 2024 (meaning that Netflix had the license for exactly 2 years). The game lets players relive the history of the gaming industry by starting their own video game development company in the 1980s.

Starting in a garage (a nod to the early days of Apple and other tech giants), players research new technologies, create custom game engines, and move into bigger offices to forge a world-class development team. It holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam and is widely considered one of the best management sims on mobile.

The Netflix version was the definitive mobile experience for many, free of ads and in-app purchases, which are present in some capacity in other mobile iterations of the genre.

Why is it leaving?

As with third-party titles on Netflix (games not developed by Netflix’s internal studios), this departure comes down to licensing. Netflix licenses games for a fixed period—typically two or three years. When that contract expires, both parties must agree to renew. In this case, it appears Greenheart Games and Netflix have opted not to extend the agreement.

Game Dev Tycoon is available elsewhere, but you won’t be able to transfer your game save. Because the “Netflix edition” of the game is a separate application entry in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store from the standard premium paid version, save data doesn’t transfer.

The game is also available on PC via Steam and on Nintendo Switch. We have contacted the developers for additional information on the Netflix removal and will update you as soon as we receive a response.

Are you disappointed to see Game Dev Tycoon leaving Netflix? Let us know in the comments below.
