Gen Z Travel Habits Push Loyalty Programs Toward Integrated Booking

23 July 20264 Mins Read

In Brief: Agoda’s survey of Asian travelers indicates that Gen Z expects travel rewards to be integrated into booking platforms, with easy ways to search, book, earn and redeem points. Respondents emphasize cultural, outdoor and food experiences, while many favor shorter, more frequent trips and consider sustainability. The findings suggest banks, airlines and loyalty providers could adapt programs by adding personalized offers, certified accommodations, off-peak incentives and travel services inside their existing apps.

Survey findings and travel motivations

Research from Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook report describes travel as a more regular and experience-led activity for Gen Z respondents across Asia. The survey found that cultural exploration was a leading motivation, cited by 32% of respondents. Outdoor activities followed at 30%, while 28% pointed to culinary discoveries.

Those preferences indicate that younger travelers are looking beyond transportation and accommodation when organizing trips. For loyalty operators, the results point to a role for destination-specific activities, dining benefits and bundled offers. Putting those options in the same platform as points and bookings could make rewards more relevant to the full trip rather than limiting them to a discount or isolated transaction.

Travel frequency creates repeated contact

Nearly three in four Gen Z travelers, or 73%, said they expect to take between one and six trips a year. Most, 86%, reported planned stays of one to seven days. The pattern suggests that many respondents favor relatively short trips taken several times across the year, although the survey excerpt does not detail sample size or methodology.

For banks, airlines and other loyalty providers, frequent travel can create more opportunities to communicate with members. Agoda argues that providers can connect earning and redemption tools directly to booking systems and use destination interests or prior bookings to select offers. Flights, accommodation and activities could then be presented within a bank, airline or rewards application, reducing the need for users to move between separate services.

Sustainability influences travel choices

Sustainability was another factor in the research. Agoda’s 2026 Sustainable Travel Survey found that 23% of Gen Z respondents travel during off-peak periods to reduce environmental impact. It also found that 38% actively look for accommodation carrying recognized sustainability certifications. The findings measure stated preferences, which may not always translate into completed bookings.

Airlines could use off-peak fares or targeted campaigns to encourage travel outside busy periods. Banks could let cardholders redeem points for certified properties or travel activities presented as more responsible choices. Loyalty platforms could also add filters for certified stays, identify eligible properties more clearly or award additional points for selected bookings. Any environmental claims would need clear standards so customers understand what a certification or responsible travel label represents.

Embedded booking changes the loyalty model

Agoda said white-label technology can allow a company to place externally supplied travel inventory inside its own app or website. Under that model, members can search for accommodation, flights and activities, complete a booking, and earn or spend rewards without leaving the loyalty provider’s digital platform. The customer sees the partner’s interface even when another company supplies the underlying travel inventory.

Agoda executive Damien Pfirsch said younger travelers expect a direct route from discovery to booking and want rewards to work across a trip. He also said offers should account for budget and sustainability concerns. The company’s position is that integrated travel can increase engagement and produce additional travel revenue for participating businesses.

What the findings mean for loyalty providers

The survey results frame loyalty less as a separate points program and more as part of a connected booking process. Such a shift could give members access to rewards at several stages, from choosing a destination to reserving activities. It could also give providers more information about customer preferences and more chances to market services.

However, the findings reflect reported intentions and Agoda’s commercial interpretation of them. Whether embedded travel produces sustained loyalty would depend on pricing, ease of use, reward value, data practices and the credibility of sustainability information. Those factors are likely to determine whether Gen Z travelers view integrated platforms as useful rather than simply another sales channel.
