Mad Max creator George Miller is still looking to head back to the wasteland. According to a new report, he wants to make another Mad Max movie and a TV show before saying goodbye to the series.
Puck reported Thursday that Miller recently met with studios to drum up interest in getting a new Mad Max project off the ground. According to the report, Amazon, Universal, and Sony Pictures are all interested. Warner Bros., which distributed previous Mad Max films, such as 2024’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has passed on the potential projects.
Warner Bros. not wanting to be in the Mad Max business isn’t too surprising. While 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road was adored by critics and fans and made $380 million at the box office, it was estimated to have lost $20 to $40 million. The prequel, Furiosa, didn’t perform any better and only grossed about $174 million, despite strong critical reception.
If Miller does get to make a sixth Mad Max and a TV series, they’d be his final marks on this franchise that began nearly 50 years ago. Miller would “then sell the whole property to the highest bidder,” according to Puck.
Miller has already hinted at where the series might go next. He’d previously discussed his idea for a film called Mad Max: The Wasteland, which would be another prequel to Fury Road about what Max was up to before getting captured in Fury Road‘s opening. When promoting Furiosa, Miller told Digital Spy, “If Furiosa does well enough, and we’ve got the appetite for it, we’ll move forward. But at this point, it’s way too early.” In a 2025 interview with Vulture, he said he had a script for a Mad Max movie, but “all I can say is ‘We’ll see.'”
If Miller’s ambitious plans for this franchise never materialize, at least we’ll always have Fury Road to rewatch for the umpteenth time. Watching the Doof Warrior shred a flame-spewing guitar never gets old.
Where does Furiosa fit into the Mad Max timeline? George Miller says it doesn’t matter
‘The films have no strict chronology.’
