We’re already at the halfway point of Season 2 of When Hope Calls! We hope the series will be picked up for more seasons, and those seasons come with even more episodes. Six episodes just isn’t enough for Hopefuls.
Last week’s show saw the exit of Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Mountie Gabriel (RJ Hatanaka) as it transitioned over to new lead characters, Nora Anderson (Cindy Busby) and Mountie Michael Fletcher (Christopher Russell). We do hope to see Lillian and Gabriel in future seasons and episodes, even if it’s in a guest star capacity.
Here’s everything to know about this week’s episode of When Hope Calls, including an exclusive sneak peek.

What happened in the previous episode of When Hope Calls?
Even though Lillian just discovered she had an aunt, she continued with her plans to head to London to visit her sister, Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), who was having a difficult pregnancy.
Nora, their aunt, was spending as much time as she could with her niece and the orphans she cared for. While there, one of the orphans, Charlotte (Jasper Green), who is blind, named the Tess’ (Wendy Crewson) new filly. When Sugar the filly ran away after being spooked by wolves, Nora and Charlotte went out to look for it. They found the horse, and Nora ultimately decided to stay in Brookfield, taking a lot of weight off Lillian’s shoulders.
Meanwhile, Maggie’s (Hanneke Talbot) parents (Paris Jefferson, Peter Crockett) were in town, hoping she would return home to England. When her father discovered Maggie had eyes for Sam (Jon McLaren), they bought her passage on a luxury liner so she could travel the world again. But Maggie has made her home in Brookfield and told her parents perhaps they should take the passenger liner together and enjoy their retirement sightseeing.
When Maggie saw Nora and Sam walking off together, she believed Sam had an interest in Nora. But we learn that Sam had finally hit gold and needed Nora’s legal expertise to make sure he had a valid claim on the land. A soon-to-be wealthy Sam finally asked Maggie out on a proper date.
As Lillian headed for the train station, she was sad that Gabriel wasn’t able to find a way to return home to see her. Before the carriage could get very far, up came Gabriel riding his trusty steed. Hopefuls swooned as he made his declarations of love and told her he wanted to hold her and kiss her one last time before she headed to England. It was a great sendoff for two fan-favorite characters.
I had the opportunity to chat with RJ Hatanaka, who plays Mountie Gabriel on the show. With a busy filming schedule, Hatanaka managed to fly up to set for a few days to film his scenes. When asked about his return to Brookfield, he said, “Revisiting When Hope Calls was a wonderful experience, made even more special by the opportunity to reconnect with my old friends. Brookfield is a special place, and I can’t wait for our fans around the world to see this upcoming season.”

What happens in this week’s episode of When Hope Calls?
With Lillian headed to London, Nora takes over the day-to-day at the orphanage. When she is notified that there is a new orphan to pick up, she has to have Mountie Fletcher (Christopher Russell) escort her since she’s not yet officially a caretaker at the orphanage and can not sign for a new charge.
Hannah Lawrence (Sarah Fisher) arrives in Brookfield to oversee the sale of her late uncle’s farm. Tess, among others, is interested in buying the farm. Hannah, who spent time at her uncle’s ranch when she was a child, must deal with her uncle’s death before she can put the property up for sale. Wyatt (Nick Bateman), her uncle’s foreman, hopes she doesn’t sell the land, but must do whatever she ultimately decides. Can he convince her to keep the land? Trevor Donovan guest stars in this week’s episode.
