Get immersed in Edmonton’s largest outdoor escape room on historical grounds

15 July 20252 Mins Read

Back for another year of immersive storytelling and adventure, Where Dark Things Dwell returns for a spooky summer as Edmonton’s largest interactive outdoor escape room.

Surrounded by historical buildings like Kelly’s Saloon, guests are invited to step into Fort Edmonton Park for an outdoor escape room with eerie vibes, excellent live actors, and an exclusive look at the park after hours.

What to expect

The experience begins at Kelly’s Saloon on Fort Edmonton Park’s 1885 Street, where participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes before their start time.

The game is designed to be played with 13 groups of four, but if the experience is not sold out, Fort Edmonton may accommodate smaller groups (with no guarantee of the option’s availability).

Once everyone is settled, the actors set the scene.

“Stopping in the sleepy Village of Edmonton for a night’s rest, you and your fellow travellers find yourselves trapped by an ancient curse that has driven the villagers to madness. As the stars begin to align and the curse grows, it’s up to you to stop it from consuming your own mind and spreading out into the world,” says Fort Edmonton Park in their event description.

“Explore the town, learn the secrets of occult tools and writings, and uncover the only relic powerful enough to lift the curse, but be warned: only the bravest will see the dawn,” it continues.

For a total of 105 minutes with 90 minutes of gameplay, participants will explore 1885 St., make their way through various puzzles, and interact with the actors. Filled with stimulating challenges and captivating performances, this escape room promises a fun-filled evening for everyone involved.

Snacks and beverages are available for purchase at Kelly’s Saloon 30 minutes before the game, as well as during the game.

Fort Edmonton reminds participants to be aware that there will not be time or space dedicated to lounging, as the game will proceed without interruption.

They encourage those interested in the new experiences to keep updated on their social media channels.

When: June 6 to Sept. 14
Time: 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Where: Fort Edmonton Park – 7000 143rd St., Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $35 per person or $140 per group of four (plus service fee and GST)
