Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep’s Daughter, Owns the Red Carpet After Haunting Portrayal of Caroline Kennedy

15 April 20262 Mins Read

Grace Gummer looks just like her mother, legendary actress Meryl Streep, and she became Caroline Kennedy in her most recent role in FX/Hulu’s Love Story. But in a new red carpet appearance, the rising star made it clear that she doesn’t need her mother’s star power to stand on her own.

Gummer, 39, has been a working actress for several years, with roles in films like Frances Ha and Jenny’s Wedding, and TV series like The Newsroom and Good Girls Revolt. But it was her earthshattering role as Caroline Kennedy, daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy, navigating a life filled with grief, that catapulted her into the Emmy Award conversation.

The brunette beauty hit the red carpet to attend the gala screening of Brunello: The Gracious Visionary at David Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center this week, and showed that an outfit doesn’t have to be overly complex to be utterly stunning. With a soft white blouse that plunged to her tummy and glittering skirt with a subtle train, the actress showed a subdued sense of style that will be fun to watch evolve.

Did the Cast of Love Story Know the Show Would Be Such a Success?

Gummer said that while the cast of Love Story knew the show would do well, they had no idea it would turn into an international phenomenon.

“We knew people would like it, but we didn’t know it would be a global phenomenon. We all have a group chat together, and we’re like, ‘Okay, what is going on?” Gummer told Elle. “We root for each other, mostly. But we use the head-exploding emoji all the time, because this is just getting so big, and we’re honestly just really thrown by it. We use that, we use the heart-eye emoji a lot, and then the one with the tongue hanging out, because all the red carpets and the promotions—it’s amazing, but we’re really just shocked.”
