Hazbin Hotel season 2 trailer resolves a major cliffhanger

The first teaser for season 2 of Vivienne Medrano’s hit A24 adult animated show Hazbin Hotel wasn’t much more than a vibe and a promise, but the full trailer for the season has finally dropped, and it looks like Medrano and her team at the Spindlehorse animation studio know exactly which characters, conflicts, and situations their huge fandom has been buzzing about since season 1 arrived in 2024.

There’s a lot in this trailer to get the fandom chattering on social media. There’s the promise of a war between Heaven and Hell, an escalation of the fight between Radio Demon Alastor and TV demon Vox, a shot of Lucifer Morningstar going full-bore Demonic Dad. There’s also a heartening acknowledgment that this series is a musical, something trailers for musicals have mostly been hiding recently. But possibly most dramatically, Adam — the Big Bad of season 1 — appears to be back. The possibility of his resurrection has been an open question since the season 1 finale, since the show hasn’t yet addressed the nature of mortal souls in Heaven.

Season 1 centers on Lucifer’s daughter Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen) — a Disney Princess type with a habit of singing her feelings in sweeping Broadway numbers — pushing back against Heaven’s yearly violent purges of Hell’s inhabitants. The results of her campaign were mixed. Her friends learned it was possible to fight back against angels, and Heaven retreated. But that left opportunists like Vox (Smash‘s Christian Borle) room to consolidate power and try to use Charlie for their own ends. The season 2 trailer shows Vox stepping up and fomenting war, even as Heaven is considering peace.

Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
