Helluva Boss card game Kickstarter launches early, funds instantly

5 September 20253 Mins Read

Fans of Vivienne Medrano’s animated series Helluva Boss got a helluva surprise on Thursday when the Kickstarter countdown for the spin-off card game Immediate Murder Professionals: A Helluva Boss Official Game launched six hours earlier than scheduled — and immediately hit its funding goal.

The game, projected for release in April 2026, adapts the animated series — about a group of professional (well, just barely) demonic assassins — into a competitive scenario where players compete to acquire the most lucrative targets.

In Medrano’s series, a companion story to her A24/Prime Video animated musical series Hazbin Hotel, married imps Moxxie (Richard Steven Horvitz, the voice of Zim on Invader Zim) and Millie (Vivian Nixon), their imp boss Blitzo (series co-writer Brandon Rogers), and their hellhound receptionist Loona (Erica Lindbeck) run an assassination-for-hire company called I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals).

Using a magical grimoire “borrowed” from Blitzo’s on-again-off-again Hell-lord lover Stolas, they travel between their home in Hell and the mortal plane, where they murder living people on behalf of vengeful clients (mostly sinners condemned to Hell). The game, billed as a 20-minute, fast-paced competitive simulation of the show, lets up to four players take on the roles of these characters as they travel back and forth between planes, collecting high-value victims and interfering in each other’s work. A beta version of the rules has been posted online as part of the Kickstarter.

Helluva Boss is available in full on YouTube, the original platform where its episodes launched. As part of Medrano’s fan-beloved Hellaverse, it’s a popular series: The chaotic pilot has been viewed more than 80 million times. The show is also coming to Prime Video on Sept. 10, with a new pilot to introduce viewers to the characters, and more seasons planned for the future. The show’s popularity was immediately evident in the Kickstarter launch: The campaign hit its $25,000 funding goal almost instantly. At the time of publication, about an hour after launch, it had passed the $125,000 mark and was still climbing rapidly.

The game’s designer, Creatist Games, is offering the game in three formats. There’s a simple retail version, at $29 on Kickstarter and with a planned store MSRP of $40. The the deluxe “Grimoire” version is $69 on Kickstarter or MSRP $80, and it comes with acrylic standees for the characters, an additional character option, a slipcover case designed to mimic the grimoire from the TV series, and all campaign stretch goals. The $99 collectors’ edition is the same as the Grimoire edition, with a YouTooz collectable figure of Millie added. The stretch goals had not been announced as of the time of publication, but given how rapidly the game is selling, the campaign seems likely to hit at least some stretch goals.

Fans who’d joined an advance mailing list for the campaign complained in comments both about the early launch and about not being notified in time to take advantage of a limited promotion allowing a very small number of early backers to buy the retail version of the game for $1 and the Grimoire edition for $6. A Creatist spokesperson apologized on the campaign page, but it was unclear why the Kickstarter launched earlier than the initial countdown had promised.
