Henry Cavill’s New Action Thriller From Guy Ritchie Is Officially a Massive Streaming Hit

Henry Cavill has played many different roles in the action genre world. Whether it be a grounded more depressed version of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel or Geralt of Rivia in a few seasons of Netflix’s The Witcher, he knows how to bring very different energy to the action roles he’s playing. Which is probably why he’s been able to inhabit quite a few of Guy Ritchie’s films, bringing something new to each role he takes on. And their latest collaboration has found success on streaming after a lackluster start (aka, people didn’t really know that this was a movie to begin with).

The 2026 film In the Grey marked Ritchie’s third collaboration with Cavill and the second time that Cavill and co-star Eiza González worked together on one of his films. Also starring Jake Gyllenhaal, it was a new kind of action movie that should have made fans of Ritchie’s excited. Especially since this was his second film with Gyllenhaal after their work together on Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. But at the time of the film’s release, there was little to no press about the film and its %52 rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes didn’t help the film’s case. That is, until now when it found its home on streaming.

In the Grey ended up bringing in a total of $23.7 million at the worldwide box office. That was, reportedly, not even a third of the film’s overall budget. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for the film, however, is at an 82% and it is ranking in Prime Video’s top 10 on streaming, giving In the Grey streaming success that it never found in the box office. Currently, In the Grey is ranking at number 5 behind films like Project Hail Mary but ranking higher than Gyllenhaal’s 2024 remake Road House.

The Other Guy Ritchie/Henry Cavill Movie That Deserved a Second Chance

In the Grey is described as follows: “A covert team of elite operatives are living in the shadows. When a ruthless despot steals a billion-dollar fortune, they’re sent to take it back-an impossible heist that erupts into a deadly game of strategy, deception and survival.” Which is, in many cases with Ritchie’s films, what makes his work so fun. You know there is a mystery to solve and that people will look cool doing it. Which is why Ritchie’s other film with Cavill deserves a second chance as well.

The first collaboration between Ritchie and Cavill came in the form of the 2015 film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Based on the popular television show from 1964, the film starred Cavill as Napoleon Solo who was forced to team up with Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) to solve a case. But the film was released and did less than well at the box office, leaving fans wanting more. Instead, we’ve continued to have collaborations between Ritchie and Cavill to heal our wounds. Like the 2024 film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare as well.
