Spring is here which means it’s time for Easter and there are many ways to spend the day.
Whether you’re celebrating or not, you might be wondering what grocery stores, restaurants, malls and more are open and closed on March 31.
Easter Sunday isn’t a stat holiday in Ontario so employers aren’t required to close up shop and give employees the day off work.
Quite a few places do get shut down even though it’s not mandatory in this province.
That’s why some spots are open on Easter Sunday while others aren’t.
So, here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed in Ontario if you want to get groceries, have brunch at a restaurant, go shopping at a mall, visit a museum and more on Easter.
Grocery stores
Costco:Costco locations in Ontario are closed on Easter.
Walmart: Most Walmart stores are closed on Sunday in Ontario but a few are open to shoppers.
That includes:
- 23550 Woodbine Ave., Keswick (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- 17940 Yonge St., Newmarket (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- 670 Applewood Cres., Vaughan (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- 255 Silver Linden Dr., Richmond Hill (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 100 Stonebridge Blvd., Wasaga Beach (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 1050 Hoover Pk. Dr., Stouffville (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 2245 Islington Ave., Toronto (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
- 135 First Commerce Dr., Aurora (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
- 1900 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- 1111 Davis Dr., Newmarket (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 1070 Major Mackenzie Dr. E., Richmond Hill (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 8300 Highway 27, Woodbridge (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- 700 Centre St., Thornhill (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- 3600 Major Mackenzie Dr. W., Vaughan (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Loblaws: Some Loblaws stores are open on Easter Sunday.
That includes these locations:
- 60 Carlton St., Toronto (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
- 400 Kent St. W., Lindsay (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- 200 Bullock Dr., Markham (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- 301 High Tech Rd., Richmond Hill (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Metro: Closed.
Fortinos: Closed on Easter Sunday.
Rabba: All Rabba locations in the Greater Toronto Area are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Liquor stores
LCBO: Closed.
The Beer Store: Closed.
Wine Rack: Wine Rack locations in Toronto are open during the Easter long weekend, including on Sunday, March 31.
Malls
Eaton Centre: Open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Easter Sunday.
Yorkdale: Closed.
Sherway Gardens: Closed.
Toronto Premium Outlets: This shopping centre near Toronto is open on Easter Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Rideau Centre: Closed on March 31.
Square One: Closed.
Bramalea City Centre: Closed on Sunday.
Vaughan Mills: Closed.
Outlet Collection at Niagara: Open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Upper Canada Mall: Closed on Easter.
Things to do
The Distillery District: You can take part in Après Ski Weekends at Toronto’s Distillery District starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
There is also an Easter egg hunt for kids at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Royal Ontario Museum: Open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Easter.
Casa Loma:Casa Loma is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Journey Behind The Falls: This attraction in Niagara Falls is open between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
CN Tower: The CN Tower’s main observation level is open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.
National Gallery of Canada: This art gallery in Ottawa is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Easter Sunday.
Canadian Museum of Nature: Open in Ottawa between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Hockey Hall of Fame: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Butterfly Conservatory: This conservatory in Niagara Falls is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Lumière The Art of Light: This free outdoor light-based art exhibition invites visitors to explore Ontario Place’s Trillium Park and experience public art created by talented Ontario artists. from sunset to 11:00 pm
Rouge National Urban Park: This national park — which borders Toronto, Markham, Pickering and Uxbridge — is open every day of the year.
Services
Canada Post:Canada Post is closed with no mail collection or delivery on weekends anyway.
But since Easter Monday is a stat holiday federally, post offices are closed and there is also no collection or delivery of mail on Monday.
Banks: Banks in Ontario are closed on Sundays.
You can still withdraw cash from ATMs and access your accounts, pay bills, and more with online banking when bank branches are closed on weekends and stat holidays.
Service Canada: Service Canada locations in Ontario aren’t open on weekends.
If you were thinking of going the next day, Service Canada centres are closed on Easter Monday — April 1, 2024.
ServiceOntario: Closed on Sunday. Some ServiceOntario locations in the province are also closed on Monday.
Certain ServiceOntario services are online now so can renew your driver’s licence, renew your licence plate, renew your health card, and more even when centres are closed.
Transit
TTC: On Easter, the TTC is operating a regular Sunday service schedule.
If a route doesn’t operate on Sundays, there is no service on March 31, 2024.
GO Transit: GO Transit is on a regular Sunday schedule for Easter.
Since not all GO Transit routes have weekend service, some buses and trains might not run on March 31.
