Meghan Markle‘s latest projects have been met with a fair amount of skepticism, but the Duchess of Sussex is clapping back at the idea that she’s out of touch…even as she remains committed to maintaining her family’s privacy.
As part of her efforts to promote her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, the former Suits actress invited New York Times food writer Julia Moskin to the $14 million Montecito home she shares with husband Prince Harry and children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, — a notable occasion, as Moskin noted, because the interview marked the first time Markle allowed a journalist into the family’s residence.
However, Moskin’s invite came with one strict condition: no photos.
“I was allowed in on the condition that no photographs were taken in, or of, the house,” Moskin wrote in a NYT article published on Wednesday, March 2.
Following With Love, Meghan‘s debut, viewers called the royal out for filming her series in a rented $8 million farmhouse two miles from her own residence (in addition to slamming her lemon-zesting skills and the fac that she transferred pre-packaged pretzels into personalized bags). But Moskin defended Markle, writing, “Last week’s visit…showed that she is a passionate home cook who knows her way around a vinaigrette, is quick with a lemon zester and deft with a knife.”
Markle used the NYT interview as an opportunity to explain why she continues to pursue her passions even after marrying into the royal family.
“I need to work, and I love to work,” she said, adding, “This is a way I can connect my home life and my work.”
