Did you know that before he became the godfather of American chocolate, Milton Hershey’s first successful business venture was a company that manufactured and sold caramel? After quitting school at the ripe age of just 13, Milton apprenticed for a confectioner and learned the art of candy making. He went on to found several businesses that didn’t quite take off before launching the Lancaster Caramel Company in 1886.

The company went on to sell for $1 million in 1900 (about $37,817,976.19 today), and the rest is Hershey’s history. We may want to reconsider our profession. It just goes to show that no matter where you start, you’re always on your way somewhere—you might even be on your way to making billions selling chocolate. Despite his shift in focus to become a world-renowned chocolatier, Hershey’s first love was sticky, sweet caramel, and when you look at it from that lens, it makes Hershey’s news product make a lot more sense.

Beyond the fact that it’s a match-made-in-heaven combo, chocolate and caramel both share a huge part in Hershey’s legacy—so why not put the two together? Thankfully, we can finally put our hopes and dreams to rest with word that the iconic Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar is getting the caramelly update it so rightfully deserves. According to @candyhunting on Instagram, new Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Caramel Bars are on their way to stores now, and shoppers are going wild. The new treat, likely an homage to the founder himself, takes the classic chocolate bar and stuffs ooey, gooey caramel in the middle.
Similar to Rolo’s (IYKYK) or a Cadbury Caramello, this new iteration on a classic has chocolate lovers going berserk. “I must find,” said one shopper. “I’m not gonna not eat these,” hilariously quipped another fan. As a self-described caramel fanatic, I, too, agree that I definitely will not not devour an entire six-pack in one sitting.
