HGTV Star Reveals He’s Trying 'Something New' —and Fans Love the Idea

30 January 20264 Mins Read

HGTV star Dave Marrs wants to spotlight trade jobs in 2026.

TV Insiderreported that in a January 27 Instagram video, Dave revealed that he’ll impart his knowledge as a contractor and builder in weekly episodes on the social media platform, called “Shop Talk.”

“I am actually going to try something new in 2026,” said Dave in his Instagram video. “Kind of a shop talk thing. Just basically questions that I’m getting online about different products, about services, about building, you name it.”

He then revealed that the January 27 upload was his first “Shop Talk” episode. He stated that in said episode he “really want[s] to talk about the trades in general,” like plumbers and electricians.

“We are losing craftsmen. We are losing HVAC electricians, plumbers, you name it. They’re aging out faster than we’re replacing them, and it is becoming a big, big problem,” said Dave in his Instagram video. “For so long, we were told, and we told our kids, ‘Hey, you need to go to a four-year college and get a degree.’ That is no more. You can go into the trades now and there is great opportunity, there is great money in an industry that is growing like crazy.”

He said that he wants builders and companies to make an alliance to ensure the trade jobs don’t disappear.

“It is so important and something that I’ve neglected for way longer than I should have, and then other builders and other tradesmen have done the same,” said Dave in the video. “But we’re gonna fix that. So, stay tuned. Over the next couple of weeks, we’re gonna start talking about the trades. We’re gonna talk about a whole home alliance. We’re gonna talk about really building up our industry.”

“I’m going to try something new. I’d like to start a weekly shop talk, focusing on products I use, building practices I prefer, and highlighting the trades for future generations. Please shoot me any questions you would like me to answer and I will try my best. Hope you all have a safe, wonderful, snow filled week,” read the caption of the post.

Several Fans Shared That They Appreciated Dave Marrs’ New Idea

Several fans took to the post’s comments section to tell Dave they appreciated his endeavor.

“I’m here for this!! Love it Dave!!” wrote a commenter.

“This is wonderful. We need more tradesmen! My husband is a self employed Master Plumber and not many in our location. Same with electricians!” added a fan.

“Great advice, Dave. Looking forward to Shop Talk,” wrote another.

“Thank you for bringing light to this ! It is so important! Love watching Jenny & you,” commented a social media user.

“Absolutely wonderful! This is so very needed! Thank you, looking forward to watching,” shared a different person.

“Love it! I have always rebuilt myself, it is sooo fun and I really love it! You is sooo creative and do so many smart and beautiful things,” chimed in a fifth Instagram user.

Dave Marrs Has Co-Starred With His Wife on ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ For Seven Seasons

Dave and his wife, Jenny Marrs, began starring in their HGTV series, Fixer to Fabulous, which started airing in 2019. In a joint November 2025 interview with Carrie on Camera, the couple, who share five children, shared their thoughts about filming the show’s most recent seventh season.

Jenny said that she’s grateful for the viewers who continued to tune into their show for the last seven years. According to Jenny, she and her husband sometimes forget about the HGTV camera while they are working on their latest renovations.

“It is really amazing that people invite us into their their living rooms and they get to see these stories of these projects and these families that we work with. It’s pretty amazing. We’re just really grateful,” said Jenny during the interview.

Dave echoed his wife and thanked their fans.

Fixer to Fabulous season 7 began airing in December 2025.
