High Park Zoo just gave its new Highland cow an adorably funny name

9 May 20252 Mins Read

We don’t want to hear about the never-ending construction and transit closures, we want to hear about the cute animals. Yep, the news cycle can be pretty daunting these days, but I’m here to shake it up with the best news ever. High Park Zoo, a free public attraction at the city’s largest urban park, had a public vote on what to name its new Highland cow calf. And it’s adorable.

High Park Zoo went to the people of Toronto to source out the best name for their fuzzy new friend, with the vote coming down to three choices. Poppy, Winnie and Molly McMoo were the finalists, and ultimately, Molly McMoo came out on top.

“It was a close race, with Molly McMoo getting 43 per cent of the votes. Poppy came in second, and Winnie in third,” shares High Park Zoo in their post introducing Molly McMoo.

If you want to go see Molly McMoo for yourself, the zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Molly is among a ton of other lovable animal friends, including:

  • Barbary Sheep
  • Bison
  • Capybara
  • Emu
  • Llama
  • Mouflon Sheep
  • Peacock
  • West Highland Cattle
  • Yak

If you can believe it, High Park Zoo has actually been around since 1893! It’s been a popular attraction since the day it opened, and currently brings in around 600,000 visitors a year.

One of those visitors is me, as I plan on going to see Molly as soon as this weekend.

Welcome to the zoo, Molly McMoo.
