Highguard, The Game Awards' unexpected final reveal, gets a big showcase Monday

After closing out The Game Awards, Wildlight Studios has been quiet about its new free-to-play PVP shooter — until now

The announcement of Highguard — a new free-to-play PVP shooter from former Respawn developers at Wildlight Studios — was meant to end 2025’s The Game Awards with a bang. Since then, though, it’s largely been silence from Wildlight, following the game’s December announcement.

But after weeks of deafening silence from its creators, Highguard is now showing signs of life: A video has been uploaded to the official Highguard YouTube account, although it’s not yet available for viewing. Scheduled to go live on Monday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, the video is titled “Highguard | Official Launch Showcase,” and while it’s not yet available for viewing, the thumbnail does confirm one thing: Highguard is still scheduled to arrive on Jan. 26.

As for what the showcase itself will consist of, the video’s description says it will feature “a full gameplay deep dive, year one plans, and much more.” Given that, up until this point, the most anyone has seen is the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, that sounds like a lot of information that will be flowing. And, thankfully, this means one thing is absolutely certain: Highguard hasn’t been delayed, and players will see what these former Titanfall and Apex Legends devs have up their sleeves when Highguard launches on Monday. And then they can tune in to see what’s planned for the future of the game.

Highguard releases Jan. 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
