Keep your schedule clear for the first weekend in September because Toronto’s oldest street festival is back for another year, and you totally don’t want to miss it.
The famed and historic Cabbagetown Festival returns for the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 7. Known as the city’s oldest street fest, it’s two jam-packed days of (free) Toronto fun.
Get yourself down to Parliament Street and Carlton Street and join in on the festivities, like DJs and live music, street performers, food trucks and beer gardens, giant outdoor games, pop-up patios, a Kids Zone, and more.
For some shopping, browse through the 250+ vendors selling handmade goods and artisan products, including Sunbalm Jewelry, Artisan MRKT, 99 Frames, and more. Check out the festival’s six stages for live performances (stilt performers and jugglers too) like EDM beats from DJ Mike and DJ Sena, and sing-along tunes from ABBA Revisited, plus Trish Kerr and the Divas, Shane Philips, and more.
Festival noshers will be excited to enjoy some local food and beverage vendors like Mad Mexican and Momo Ghar, and visit extended patios from Cabbagetown favs. Enjoy the September weather on the Salt and Tobacco, Stout Irish Pub, House on Parliament, and Super Bargain patios!
For Cabbagetown Festival-exclusive programming, you have to visit the wacky tradition of the Annual Cabbage Cutting (to be attended by Mayor Olivia Chow) on Saturday morning, and the beloved Closing Parade on Parliament Street, promptly at 6:20 p.m.
As a historic Toronto neighbourhood, Cabbagetown has a lot of rich history, which is always displayed at the festival, like the photo exhibit and Indigenous Stage. Be sure to visit the many Victorian homes in the area, said to be the largest preserved collection in North America.
Held every year since 1976 (that’s almost 50 years!), the Cabbagetown Festival is always a good time, and a great way to send off summer! And with 100,000 visitors each year, you’re always in good company.
