IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Chentoor Hotels Pvt Ltd for the development of Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai. The 150-key hotel, including 30 suites, is scheduled to open in early 2029 near Madurai International Airport.
Madurai received over 27 million visitors in 2024, driven by its role as a major pilgrimage destination and the presence of the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Madurai is also experiencing commercial and infrastructural growth, with emerging IT/ITES hubs and large-scale industrial projects increasing business travel to the city.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai will join IHG’s portfolio in South India. The Holiday Inn Express brand has over 3,200 hotels globally and features the Generation 5 design, which focuses on smart, flexible spaces and consistent comfort.
IHG currently operates 51 hotels across six brands in India, including Six Senses, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, voco Hotels, Holiday Inn Resort, and Holiday Inn Express. The company has a pipeline of 89 hotels planned to open in the next three to five years.
