Hollywood lets you drive vehicles from Back to the Future, Miami Vice, and more

3 June 20262 Mins Read

One of the more surprising announcements of today’s State of Play was Stuntman: Hollywood, a revival of a PlayStation 2-era game series where players perform stunts on fictional movie sets.

Like Stuntman: Ignition, this game seems to be primarily focused on vehicle-based stunts, gamifying the racing and vehicle-combat filmmaking process. It’s being developed by Saber Interactive, which is known for publishing games like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and World War Z. Those are licensed games, and it looks like that experience enabled Saber to bring some real-world franchises into Stuntman: Hollywood.

While previous Stuntman games had players performing in fictional movies, the reveal trailer for Stuntman: Hollywood features vehicles from series like Miami Vice, Knight Rider, Back to the Future, and Death Race.

A PlayStation Blog post also revealed more details about the game. Stuntman: Hollywood’s developers reveal that they took inspiration from titles like Burnout and Split/Second for the gameplay, but that the whole game is built around performing during movie shoots for real-world Hollywood franchises.

The game is structured in an episode format, with each “episode” presenting players with different challenges. These range from simple drifting challenges to ones where the player has to dodge gunfire as they’re being relentlessly shot at. By completing the main objectives and bonus challenges, players earn stars that can be used to progress through the game and unlock new items for their garage.

Seeing licensed cars in video games isn’t uncommon, but it’s usually for normal racing games like Forza Horizon 6. Stuntman: Hollywood appears to be taking a much more explosive and franchise-driven approach to its licensing, so it’ll be interesting to see just how many franchises Saber can get into this game.

Stuntman: Hollywood is in development for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. It does not have a firm release window at this time.
