Hong Kong Airlines has announced the launch of a new direct service to Sydney, Australia, starting on June 20, 2025. This makes it the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate the popular route, which is expected to increase convenience for passengers and promote market competition. The airline will offer daily scheduled flights, and Sydney will be its second Australian destination for the year, following the resumption of seasonal flights to the Gold Coast in January.
To commemorate the occasion, a signing ceremony was held at Sydney Airport, with representatives from Hong Kong Airlines, Sydney Airport, the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney, local officials, and the Tourism Board in attendance.
Hong Kong Airlines Chairman, Mr. Yan Bo, stated that the new route would serve a broader range of international travelers and highlighted the efforts of both governments to support more bilateral air traffic rights. The airline is committed to offering high-quality services and competitive prices, providing passengers with diverse and convenient travel options.
Hong Kong Airlines President, Mr Jeff Sun, emphasized that the new service will boost tourism, economic, and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Australia. The airline will also benefit from the increased capacity offered by the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport.
Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport, welcomed the arrival of Hong Kong Airlines and acknowledged the expanded bilateral air traffic rights between Hong Kong and Australia. He believes the new daily service will increase capacity and provide passengers with more opportunities to explore Hong Kong, one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.
The new Sydney service will be operated by A330-300 aircraft, featuring Business and Economy Class cabins. Hong Kong Airlines has been actively expanding its network and improving its service quality as a full-service carrier. It currently serves over 30 destinations worldwide and has successfully resumed flights to the Gold Coast and Vancouver.
