Hotel Wren, a redesigned 1940s motel, has officially opened in Twentynine Palms, California

Hotel Wren, located just 10 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, has opened its doors to guests. The property, originally a 1940s roadside motel, has been transformed to offer modern accommodations while retaining elements of its historical architecture. The hotel features 12 guest rooms, each designed to integrate with the natural desert environment.

The redesign of Hotel Wren focused on preserving the motel’s original layout and architectural features, such as steel casement windows. The interior design incorporates materials and colors reflective of the desert landscape, with features like hand-troweled plaster, custom terracotta floors, and hand-painted tiles. The property aims to provide a serene retreat, encouraging guests to enjoy the desert surroundings.

Each guest room at Hotel Wren is designed to offer a private, suite-style experience, with amenities that promote relaxation and reflection, such as yoga mats and artisanal teas. The rooms are equipped with either king or queen beds, and half offer direct views of the western desert with features like bathtubs and private patios. The other rooms provide enclosed patios for a more secluded feel.

The hotel’s common areas include a lobby that doubles as a communal living space, featuring a fireplace and custom millwork. This space is designed to serve as a social hub for guests, fostering a sense of community and connection to the desert environment. The property does not include televisions in the rooms, supporting its theme of unplugging and immersing in nature.

Additionally, Hotel Wren houses Windsong, a bodega that offers a selection of provisions, handcrafted goods, and objects that reflect the local culture and landscape. This space is intended to extend the hotel’s ethos of connecting with the environment and supporting local artisans.

Hotel Wren is an adults-only property emphasizing a peaceful and reflective atmosphere. It is positioned as a destination for those seeking a quiet retreat in the high desert, with easy access to Joshua Tree National Park’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
