Hotels Leverage Guest Data to Enhance Experiential Travel Offerings

In the evolving landscape of hospitality, hotels are increasingly focusing on delivering unique experiences to their guests. This trend, known as experiential travel, emphasizes personalized offerings that cater to the specific interests and preferences of each guest. By harnessing guest data, hotels aim to create memorable stays that foster loyalty and repeat visits.

Personalization Through Data

At the 2025 Hotel Data Conference, industry experts discussed the importance of utilizing guest data to enhance the travel experience. Dominic Donatoni from Revinate highlighted the various methods of collecting guest data, such as through emails, surveys, and social reviews. However, he emphasized that data must be genuine and actionable. Simply collecting information is not enough; it must be used to generate insights and inform decision-making.

Sara Masterson, president of Olympia Hospitality, noted that hotels should proactively engage with guests before their arrival. By analyzing guest profiles, hotels can offer tailored experiences, such as dinner or spa reservations, that align with individual preferences. This proactive approach not only enhances guest satisfaction but also opens new revenue streams for the property.

Crafting Unique Experiences

Priya Chandnani from Sage Hospitality Group stressed the importance of curating experiences that are specific to each guest. Rather than offering generic packages, hotels should focus on creating personalized enhancements. For instance, if a guest desires a specific amenity, such as a bucket of beer upon arrival or a beach picnic, the hotel should strive to fulfill these requests. Such personalized touches, while potentially incurring additional costs, can significantly boost guest loyalty and encourage repeat visits.

Moreover, hotels can collaborate with local businesses to offer distinctive experiences that connect guests with the community. Masterson cited Olympia’s Inn by the Sea in Maine as an example, where guests can participate in a lobstering excursion with a local fisherman. This partnership not only provides a unique experience but also supports the local economy.

Marketing Authentic Experiences

Authenticity is crucial not only in the experiences offered but also in how they are marketed. Chandnani emphasized the need for consistency and scalability in marketing strategies. By establishing standard operating procedures and ensuring clear communication across all teams, hotels can maintain authenticity and effectively promote their offerings.

Marketing efforts do not always need to focus on special packages or discounts. As Donatoni pointed out, sometimes sharing simple information, such as a restaurant menu, can effectively engage potential guests. The key is to build awareness and maintain authenticity in all communications.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the shift towards experiential travel presents both challenges and opportunities for the hospitality industry. By leveraging guest data and focusing on personalization, hotels can create memorable experiences that resonate with guests. This approach not only enhances guest satisfaction but also strengthens brand loyalty and drives revenue growth. As the industry continues to evolve, hotels that prioritize authentic, personalized experiences will likely stand out in a competitive market.
