House of the Dragon season 3 gets official release date trailer

House of the Dragon officially returns for its third season on June 21, HBO announced Monday with a new trailer that shows the intense, history-changing conflicts promised by season 2 of the Game of Thrones spinoff. The Dance of the Dragons and the Battle of the Gullet await.

“You now have the power no man has ever wielded,” Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) says to his wife in the latest trailer for House of the Dragon season 3, heralding the weight of her new powers. “You will have an empire unassailable, Rhaenyra. And our children will rule it forever and a day.”

We’ll see about that. After attacking his brother King Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) at the end of House of the Dragon season 2, the ruthless Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) now sits on the Iron Throne. His mother, Alicent (Olivia Cooke), has seemingly seen reason — she knows her son is a monster, and plans to help Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and her group of dragon riders access the Red Keep to retake her rightful place on the throne.

Season 3 of House of the Dragon debuts Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. EDT/PDT on HBO, and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The eight-episode season will receive new episodes weekly, leading up to the season 3 finale on Aug. 9.

Season 3 will be HBO’s second Game of Thrones series to satiate fans of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series in 2026, following the six-episode series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. House of the Dragon is expected to end with a fourth season, which is scheduled for 2028.
