How romance works in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

16 April 20263 Mins Read

Pairing up your Miis romantically in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream leads to all sorts of shenanigans, whether it’s getting married, splitting up, or even eventually having kids. Getting your Miis together is a bit random and can be tough when you have lots of Miis on your island, but worry not, we’re here to help you out.

There isn’t a definitive way to couple your Miis up, as you’ll need to rely on the randomness of the game a bit, but after some testing, we can at least offer some tips on how to successfully play matchmaker for your Miis.

Below we list some tips on how to pair up your Miis in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

How to make romantic relationships in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

The best way to set up your Miis for romance is to just make them interact a lot. That’s really all there is to it, as you can’t really dictate when the crushes develop. This game is more of a “you’re observing sea monkeys in a tank” situation than it is a “you are a God with direct control” game. With some patience and luck, your Miis may develop a crush on another Mii, which they’ll ask for your approval about. If they develop a crush on the wrong Mii, just discourage them and keep trying.

Eventually, your crushing Mii will talk to you about confessing. For the best results, it’s ideal for the other Mii to have a crush back, but we’ve had success matching up Miis even when the romance wasn’t necessarily reciprocated at first. Keep in mind that if you do have a Mii confess to another while it’s unreciprocated, it’s possible for that confession to get crashed by other Miis, even ones that don’t have relationships with the target Mii. Your target Mii may end up choosing one of the randoms instead, rather than the original Mii who confessed!

If your Mii gets rejected, they’ll become depressed, and you’ll need to cheer them up before they start participating in any island activities again.

If you’re really striking out on getting your Miis involved, there are a few factors we’ve noticed about Miis and romance, based on our own testing:

  • Miis will never develop crushes if it’s impossible for the feelings to be returned. If Mario only likes women and Bowser likes both men and women, Bowser will never develop a crush on Mario, since he’ll never return Bowser’s feelings.
  • Miis can still develop crushes on people who are in relationships already.
  • Miis can only have one crush at a time. If they do fall for another Mii, they’ll ask you who you think they’re better off with.
  • While you can set up Mii relationships so that the game knows that some Miis are partners in real life, this didn’t seem to have a large effect on anything. The game does bring this up in a newscast under certain circumstances, but it doesn’t seem to guarantee a romantic relationship or start your Miis off with one.

That being said, just make sure your Miis’ romantic preferences are all set up properly and hope for the best.
