How to get Eternatus in Pokémon Go

18 August 20253 Mins Read

The gigantic Pokémon, Eternatus, has made its debut in Pokémon Go as part of the finale for Pokémon Go‘s ongoing Max Battle-themed summer. This Legendary beast is unique, and even though it’s not Mythical, there’s only one way to obtain it.

It also has some unique quirks when it comes to powering it up and using its Adventure Effect, which will be useful for any fans of Max Battles.

Below we explain how to get Eternatus in Pokémon Go, how its Adventure Effect works, and how to power it up.

How to get Eternatus in Pokémon Go

The only way for most players to get Eternatus is to reach rank 60 in the Go Pass: Max Finale. This one does not turn into the Eternamax version we can battle during the Go Fest: Max Finale weekend.

The pass is an abbreviated version of the Go Pass we usually see. It only costs 10 points to rank up, but you can also only earn a few levels per day before you hit a cap. During the Go Fest: Max Finale weekend on Aug. 23 and 24, this cap will be lifted, allowing you to rank up the pass as much as you’d like. That being said, most players won’t actually get to have Eternatus until the weekend.

Most of the tasks that reward you with Go Pass points involve Max Battles, which shouldn’t be too bad, as the ongoing “Dark Skies” event should put a ton of Power Spots around you.

Players who attended the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California were given an opportunity to get Eternatus ahead of time. These players will not get a second Eternatus from the Go Pass. Instead, they’ll get Eternatus Candy.

Eternatus’ Adventure Effect, explained

In exchange for 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy, you can use the Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect. This effect boosts all your Pokémon’s Max Moves by one level for 10 minutes. This means the following:

  • Any locked Max Moves will temporarily be level 1.
  • Any Max Moves that are maxed out at level 3 will be level 4 — a level you can only achieve from this Adventure Effect.

As usual, you can only have one Adventure Effect active at a time, and you can extend the duration of this effect up to 24 hours by using more candy and Stardust.

How to power up Eternatus in Pokémon Go

Eternatus can be powered up with candy and Stardust, not very differently from any other Pokémon. The problem is that Eternatus requires a massive amount of candy to power up. According to Leek Duck, it’ll take 8,900 Eternatus Candy and 8,900 Eternatus Candy XL to fully level it up to 50. It will need more to level up its Max Moves as well.

To get the candy, there are a few things you can do:

  • Earn Eternatus Candy from the Go Pass: Max Battle (ranks 61-87).
  • Pay for the deluxe version of the Go Pass: Max Battle for more candy gains ($14.99).
  • Battle and win against Eternamax Eternatus in Max Battles on Aug. 23 and 24, which can give 60-140 candy and 38-57 candy XL per win, according to the Silph Road subreddit.

You can also use Rare Candy, of course, but… given the amounts you need, you’ll need a lot of Rare Candy. Your best bet is to spend your weekend batting Eternatus in Max Battles.
