Hey, nerds (affectionate) – mark your calendars, because you can get your hands on free comic books throughout Calgary on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Free Comic Book Day is an annual promotional event by the North American comic book industry to attract new readers to independent comic book stores.
How does it all work? The Free Comic Book Day Retailer Selection Committee chooses 46 titles to be a part of the anticipated event, giving comic fans and novices alike the opportunity to get their hands on something new.
This year’s feature titles include picks for all ages and interests, such as Archie’s Comics Spectacular, Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe #1, Conan the Barbarian, Lost Marvels, Black Mirror #1, Def Leppard’s Hysteria #0, Princess Gwenevere & King Arthur Crossover, and more.
Where it’s going down
Redd Skull Comics on Edmonton Trail is one of the participating stores. This comic book shop has served Calgary for over 20 years, offering some of the best selections at the lowest prices possible. Centre Street’s Comic-Kazi will give readers two free comics from this year’s lineup, two free comics from last year’s lineup, and additional Free Comic Book Day comics for $1 each. And Words & Pictures in the northeast can help you complete your collection with expert staff who are as enthusiastic about comic books as you are.
Bring your friends and family to one (or all!) of these locations and celebrate the art and storytelling behind your favourite comic books.
