In Palworld, you’ll use high quality Pal oil to make mid- and late-game items, like guns, polymer, and advanced assembly lines. You won’t really find much high quality Pal oil in the starting areas — you’ll have to advance towards the harder parts of the map if you want to get your hands on some. There’s, however, a way to farm this material by placing the right Pal in your ranch too.

Below, we explain where to find high quality Pal oil in Palworld.

Update (July 13): We’ve updated this guide to be up-to-date with the Palworld 1.0 update.

How to get high quality Pal oil in Palworld

You can get high quality Pal oil as a drop from these Pals:

  • Woolipop
  • Dumud
  • Digtoise
  • Relaxaurus
  • Quivern

There are likely more Pals than this who drop the oil, but these are the ones we’ve found so far. From this list, the monsters we farmed the most for oil were Digtoise and Dumud in the desert biome, which you can find below:

You will need heat-resistant gear to travel in the desert safely, though.

As we leveled up higher to around the mid-20s, we started hunting Relaxaurus from this area:

Beware that Relaxaurus hit pretty hard, so you’ll need to come prepared. The only reason why we prefer Relaxaurus over the desert Pals is because there’s a fast travel spot (Ascetic Falls) conveniently where they spawn, unlike the desert Pals.

You’ll get high quality Pal oil as a drop whether you catch or kill them. If you really want to min-max, you should catch the Pals to get the initial drop and then butcher them to get an additional oil drop. To butcher Pals, you’ll need to unlock the meat cleaver at level 12.

How to farm high quality Pal oil in Palworld

Although it drops from the enemies listed in the previous section, you can also farm high-quality Pal oil by assigning a Dumud to your ranch. You can do so by lifting a Dumud and placing it inside the ranch. In our experience, this sluggish, giant brown fish produced two high-quality Pal oil flasks about five minutes after we had assigned it.

In case you need a large amount of this material quickly, hunting the Pals is the best option. However, by keeping at least one Dumud in your ranch, you will have an infinite supply of high-quality Pal oil in Palworld. To maximize the production, it’s possible to assign more than one Dumud.

If you don’t have a Dumud or want to add one to your workforce, here’s where you can get them. Mid-game, a good spot to find them is on the north of the Windscream Valley, northwest of the starting area. It’s possible to find some Dumuds patrolling the area.

Another spot is on the Isle of Murmurs, on the northwestern side of the map, where you find a level-14 Dumud boss. If you’re just starting the game and don’t have a flying mount, then reaching this location is a difficult task. At the same time, since this is a boss fight, it’s guaranteed that you will find one in the location shown on the map.

High quality Pal oil recipes in Palworld

You need high quality Pal oil to make early-game guns, like the musket (25 ingots, 5 high quality Pal oil, 3 wooden boards) and makeshift handgun (35 ingots, 10 high quality Pal oil, 30 fiber). You also need it to make the weapons assembly line (100 ingots, 20 wooden boards, 20 nails, and 10 high quality Pal oil). Notably, you need high quality Pal oil to craft polymer (two high quality Pal oil, one sulfur), which you need tons of to make advanced guns.

There are a few other things like circuit boards (two pure quartz and one polymer), the refrigerator (50 refined ingots, 20 polymer, 10 cryogenic coolant, and 5 circuit boards), and the electric furnace (50 refined ingots, 4 bio battery, 20 polymer, and 10 cryogenic coolant) that also require polymer and thus high quality Pal oil.
