Stack up on moon dust and upgrade your Arcana Cards in Hades 2
Moon dust is a Hades 2 material needed to upgrade the Arcana Cards at the Altar of Ashes, so it’s pretty important to collect it. The good news is there are many ways to get moon dust. The bad news is… it’s hard to unlock, let alone discover, every moon dust source by yourself.
To help you out, here’s how to unlock the Arcana Card upgrades in Hades 2 and how to get more moon dust.
How to unlock moon dust in Hades 2
To unlock moon dust, you must brew the Consecration of Ashes incantation at the cauldron. Hecate should give you this incantation once you’ve defeated her a few times. You may have to upgrade the Grasp of the Arcana to trigger this event (select the greenish hand at the Altar of Ashes and spend some Psyche to increase the number of Cards you can hold).
The Consecration of Ashes incantation requires the following materials:
- 6 Ash
- 6 Fated Fabric
- 1 Cinder
You can purchase Ash and Fated Fabric from the Wretched Broker. Cinder is obtained by defeating Hecate in battle.
At the Altar of Ashes, where you manage your Arcana Cards, go to the “insights” menu to upgrade a card of your choice. Every Arcana Card can be upgraded twice, until it reaches “epic” rarity. Note that the price of an upgrade depends on the card’s original value and its current rarity level. Around six stacks of moon dust is typically enough to purchase an upgrade.
How to get moon dust in Hades 2
The more moon dust you get, the better your Arcana Cards will be, so it’s wise to gather as much as you can. Here’s every source of moon dust in Hades 2:
- Buy it from the Wretched Broker. One bottle of moon dust costs 80 Bones. This is arguably the easiest way to obtain moon dust since you’ll pick up plenty of Bones during your runs.
- Brew Moonlit Essence from Stars at the cauldron. First, you must craft the Abyssal Insight incantation to activate the Pitch-Black Stone and unlock the Chaos Trials. Then, you can complete Chaos Trials to obtain star dust. The requirements for the “Moonlit Essence from Stars” incantation aren’t clear; you may have to unlock more Arcana Cards, upgrade your Grasp, or complete more Chaos Trials if you don’t see the incantation recipe yet.
- Use Charon’s Obol Points. Every time you spend 1,000 gold in Charon’s shop, he’ll give you an “Obol Points” coupon to spend at Charon’s Stash (next to the Wretched Broker). You can exchange four Obol Point coupons for eight moon dust, to arrive within 60 turns. If you don’t see moon dust among the Obol Points rewards yet, you probably need to upgrade one or two more Arcana Cards first.
- Claim Fated List of Minor Prophecies rewards. Some prophecies award moon dust, such as the Breadth of Knowledge, which grants seven moon dust for unlocking every Arcana Card.
- Buy it from Charon’s Shop during a run. This moon dust offer is a rare occurrence, but don’t be too eager to make the purchase; the price varies between 700 and 1,400 gold (in our experience), so try to buy it when it’s cheap.
- Talk to Odysseus. He may give you some moon dust for free from time to time.
