How to land a summer job at Vancouver’s largest urban park

7 May 20263 Mins Read

Want to make the most of Vancouver’s warm weather while still earning a living? Stanley Park Ecology is hiring for several seasonal roles, and the opportunities are sure to put a spring in your step.

The registered charity is currently hiring for a number of summer jobs that pay over minimum wage and are partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program.

You’ll also be part of a team helping to educate visitors and care for Vancouver’s first, largest, and most iconic urban park.

“Stanley Park Ecology celebrates diversity and is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that reflects and expands the community that we serve,” said the organization online.

“Our mission is education, conservation, and research rooted in Stanley Park.”

As the roles are partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, you must be 15 to 30 years old at the start of employment to be eligible.

Open positions at Stanley Park Ecology include the Stewardship and Conservation Assistant.

Tasks include leading weekly invasive plant removal sessions, assisting with Stewardship research projects, and helping the Urban Wildlife Programs coordinator with processing coyote sighting reports.

The organization is looking for several summer day camp leaders to assist with the preparation of outdoor camp activities, as well as lead daily camp activities for children ages seven to 11.

Stanley Park Ecology is also hiring a Nature House educator to support public programming and daily operations at Vancouver’s only ecology-focused interpretive centre.

“This position offers a unique opportunity to inspire curiosity and environmental stewardship in visitors of all ages through Nature House interpretation and programs, educational ecology-themed outreach activities and guided tours in the Park,” said the organization.

All positions have a start date in June and pay $20 an hour plus four per cent in lieu of vacation pay.

You must also be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to apply.

Applicants must also have a valid Social Insurance Number, and they should be legally allowed to work in Canada as per provincial and territorial regulations.

More information about these positions and the application process can be found online.

Hundreds of different kinds of jobs are available this month in Vancouver. So whether you have a background in food service or health care or are looking for your first job, we’ve put together a list of companies hiring that is bound to have a role that suits your specific skill set.
