Pigs in a blanket are a classic party snack that never goes out of style. These bite-sized delights consist of mini sausages or hot dogs wrapped in flaky dough, like crescent rolls or puff pastry, and baked to perfection. Their simple yet satisfying flavor makes them a hit with guests of all ages.
What makes pigs in a blanket so fun and easy for large gatherings is that they’re endlessly customizable—add cheese, sprinkle with your favorite seasoning blend or serve with a variety of dipping sauces. They’re also incredibly simple to make. You can assemble them ahead of time and pop them in the oven just before guests arrive, leaving you free to do other things.
Their small size makes them perfect for a party, and they’re always one of the first foods to disappear from the buffet. Whether it’s a casual hangout or a fancy New Year’s Eve bash, pigs in a blanket are guaranteed crowd-pleasers!
When we were looking around for New Year’s Eve snak inspiration, we ran across Ina Garten’s pigs in a blanket, which are done a little bit differently than we’re used to. They look and sound delicious and are easier than making a ton of tiny appetizers, so we were instantly intrigued.
Ina shared the recipe on her website, and content creator Alexis Murphy (@alexismurphy) showed how to put them together on TikTok. These look so good!

How to Make Ina Garten’s Pigs in a Blanket
On her Barefoot Contessa website, Ina lists the full recipe and how to put her pigs in a blanket (or Hot Dogs in Puff Pastry, as she calls them) together. You’ll need puff pastry, Dijon mustard, full-size hot dogs (Ina likes Hebrew National), one egg mixed with water for an egg wash, sea salt and black pepper.
Start by laying the cold puff pastry on a cutting board and cut a strip wide enough to match the length of the hot dogs. (Ina suggests a 5 1/2-inch-wide strip, but use the hot dogs you have to gauge the proper width.) On one short end of the pastry steip, brush about a three-inch section generously with mustard. Place a hot dog on top of the mustard and roll the hot dog in the pastry, stopping about one inch shy of the other end. Brush the one-inch strip of pastry with the egg wash and continue to roll up the hot dog, sealing it in the puff pastry.
(This is one of those things that’s probably easier to understand by watching the process, so take a look at how Alexis does it in the video above.)

Cut any remaining pastry off and place the hot dog, seam side down, on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Once all of your hot dogs are done, brush the outside of the pastry with egg wash and sprinkle with the sea salt and pepper. (You could also sprinkle them with sesame seeds or Everything But the Bagel seasoning.) Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the pastry is browned.
You can cut the pigs in a blanket into bite-sized pieces and serve them with mustard or other dipping sauces on the side. This allows you to make a large batch of pigs in a blanket without having to roll a lot of smaller hot dogs. As Ina would say, “How easy is that?”
