Ghost of Yōtei‘s Reliquary of Courage puzzle is one of the first riddles you’ll encounter. Even if you’ve already traveled further in Ezo, it’s worth coming back to this statue for the reward, a charm that makes combat a little less lethal for Atsu.
Below, we explain Ghost of Yōtei‘s Reliquary of Courage solution and what you get for clearing the puzzle. And if you’re having trouble finding your way through the mists of Ezo, keep our Ghost of Yōtei interactive map handy.
Reliquary of Courage location in Ghost of Yōtei
The Reliquary of Courage is sort of in the middle of nowhere — northeast of the Old Stables and west of the Yōtei’s Shadow Inn. It’s tucked in a bend of the Yōtei River, and a golden bird leads you to the specific location once you get close enough. If this is your first time encountering a golden bird, the game points it out for you with a brief tutorial explaining that you should follow it.
Speak to the woman in front of the statue if you want a bit of background about the folklore attached to it, and then you can investigate the plaque in front of the statue for the riddle:
“A boy was lost and alone/But wolves came from every corner to guide him/Their eyes gazing at the true Mount Yōtei.”

You’ll find four wolf statues around the main statue, with a little path taking you to each. The key to the riddle is the last line, gazing at Mt. Yōtei. Press “R2” to turn each statue counterclockwise until they’re facing the real Mt. Yōtei, and once you get the last one positioned, Atsu will automatically go to the main statue to collect the reward.
