Don’t worry about the cold; these winter festivities are going to warm Edmonton right up.

Known as the city of festivals, it’s no question that Edmonton will have a collection of winter celebrations. From music festivals to pure ice-carving winter fests, these upcoming events are ones to check out this season.

This January, Edmonton’s International Ice Carving Competition, also known as Chiseled, will be back at the ICE District Plaza. Over three days and several long hours, bystanders can watch teams of talented ice carvers transform blocks of ice into magnificent art.

Time: Various times
Where: ICE District Plaza — 10360 102nd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival is back for another year of winter fun in Edmonton. For only two days, you can see one of many performances, race against others on the ice, and marvel at the gorgeous art featured.

This multi-venue music and arts festival takes over the downtown core, spreading out across the city, and features a number of free outdoor activities.

The headliners for this year are Hiss Golden Messenger, Talib Kweli, and Fear. Winterruptions undercard has names like Miz Cracker, Faze, Thumpasaurus, Open Mike Eagle, and many more talented guests.

With relay races, traditional maple taffy stations, and more, this will be a festival to remember.
