Iceland Is Getting A Brand-New ‘Cascading Waterfall’ Lagoon, Canada Reviews

3 July 20253 Mins Read

Ever visited Iceland’s Blue Lagoon and thought, ‘this is nice and all, but it’s missing a 6.618 metre water feature?’ If the answer’s yes, we’ve got some exciting news.

There’s a new lagoon in town: Laugarás Lagoon, which is nestled on the banks of the Hvítá River in Laugarás, southwest Iceland. It’s set to be the country’s first-ever ‘cascading waterfall’ lagoon.

Sure, Iceland has a lot of waterfalls – and a lot of lagoons – but this new wellness space is something special. Designed by T.ark architects and engineered by Efla to be a ‘revolutionary two-story geothermal experience’, Laugarás Lagoon will feature a 6.618 metre waterfall as its focal point.

Recommended: The best things to do in Iceland.

The lagoons will be set across two levels and will have their waters kept at a toasty 38 – 40 degrees C, and the space also includes two saunas, two swim-up bars and a cold pool.

It’s all set amongst thick Icelandic forests, and the goal is that in the winter, it will be a glorious spot to visit to glimpse the Northern Lights. Just picture it: you’re bobbing around in the lagoon with a glass of wine in hand, and different colours are dancing across the sky right above you. Sounds pretty magical, eh? Here are some renders of what it will look like.

If all that wasn’t enough, Gísli Matt, one of Iceland’s most celebrated chefs, is heading up on-site Ylja Restaurant, a space for 80 diners which will showcase seasonal Icelandic produce, much of which will be cooked traditionally over fire.

Headed to Iceland and keen to experience Laugarás Lagoon? There are three packages available. The most basic option is Birki, which is £40 per person; Lerki is second for £55 and includes a plush towel service and a drink from the bar; third is Ösp, the bougie one for £93, where you get a two-course meal and a private changing booth included.

Bookings are open from August 15 here.
