IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its luxury and lifestyle hospitality presence in Australia through a long-term agreement with Salter Brothers. The partnership will transform several high-profile IHG hotels and return the Regent Hotels & Resorts brand to Australia after a 28-year absence.

The InterContinental Melbourne will be rebranded as Regent Melbourne, marking Regent Hotels & Resorts’ return to Australia. This transformation is expected to be completed by 2030.

In addition, three well-established properties will be joining the InterContinental brand. These are the Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach, which will be repositioned as InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach; Crowne Plaza Melbourne, which will become InterContinental Melbourne; and the Crowne Plaza Canberra site, which will be redeveloped into InterContinental Canberra.

Furthermore, a new hotel, Hotel Indigo, will be developed on the Crowne Plaza Canberra site, bringing the brand to Canberra for the first time.

voco Gold Coast, another collaboration between IHG and Salter Brothers, will also undergo refurbishment and expansion of its leisure facilities. As the first voco hotel to open globally, this property has set a precedent for the brand.

These developments indicate a significant investment in the luxury and lifestyle segment of Australia’s hotel market, valued at over $1 billion. The project aims to reposition key assets, unlock long-term value, and deliver immersive luxury and lifestyle experiences to guests.

IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 76 hotels in Australasia under nine brands, with another 26 properties in its development pipeline. This new agreement reflects the growing trend for conversions in the hotel industry and highlights the evolving nature of Australia’s hotel market.
