Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay has become the first IHG hotel in Asia to join the company’s Low Carbon Pioneer program, focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy use.

IHG Hotels & Resorts announced that Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is the first hotel in Asia to join its Low Carbon Pioneer program. The program is part of IHG’s global initiative to enhance sustainability across its properties by focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

The Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, which opened in 2014, incorporates various sustainability features. These include a fully electric kitchen, hot water heat pumps, high-efficiency water fixtures, and an intelligent building management system designed to optimize energy usage. The hotel also utilizes solar glazing and advanced lighting controls to maximize daylight and electricity efficiency.

The property has received several sustainability certifications, including the GSTC certification, a global standard for sustainability in travel and tourism. It recently won the 2025 Singapore Hotel Sustainability Award from the Singapore Hotel Association and achieved a Water Efficient Building Certification from PUB.

In Singapore, the hospitality industry is working towards sustainability goals outlined in the Hotel Sustainability Roadmap, which supports the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The roadmap aims for 60% of hotels to achieve internationally recognized sustainability certification by 2025 and for the industry to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

In addition to the Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, IHG has announced plans for the upcoming Hotel Indigo Changi Airport, set to open in 2028, to achieve a “zero-energy” certification under the Green Mark Scheme of the Singapore Building and Construction Authority.

The Low Carbon Pioneer program aims to create a community of low operational carbon hotels to share sustainability practices and support hotel owners in aligning with regulatory standards and accessing green financing.
