One groundbreaking anime is set to make history once again on the big screen
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is one of the highest-grossing movies of 2025, and now that audiences in Japan are getting to watch it for the first time in IMAX, the film’s theatrical run will extend once again for ScreenX and 4DX screens. Starting Feb. 20, in select Japanese theaters, the latest Demon Slayer film will come to multi-screen and immersive 4DX formats for the first time in the franchise’s history.
ScreenX presents films across a panoramic, three-screen setup, expanding the image beyond the main screen to heighten immersion during select sequences. Infinity Castle will make history as the first anime to use this format, mirroring its distinction as Japan’s first anime release in traditional IMAX.
While ScreenX and 4DX screenings are currently limited to Japan and the Philippines, speculation suggests that theaters worldwide equipped with these formats could eventually host limited runs of Infinity Castle. There are also rumors that regions without ScreenX or 4DX may see a traditional IMAX re-release instead.
Infinity Castle debuted in Japan on July 18, 2025, kicking off a historic box office run that pulled in more than 25 billion yen (about $174 million) in just its first 31 days. After dominating domestically, the film rolled out internationally on August 14, arriving in North American theaters on September 12, and ultimately grossed over $600 million worldwide. The movie is the first in a trilogy that will conclude the adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the manga written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge and serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
