IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to open a new InterContinental hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 2027, marking the brand’s first entry into the country.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the development of a new InterContinental hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador, scheduled to open in 2027. This project represents the first foray of the InterContinental brand into Ecuador. The hotel is being developed in collaboration with BPO Consulting and will be located in the Samborondón district of Guayaquil.
The InterContinental Guayaquil will feature 101 guestrooms, including 11 suites and one Presidential Suite. The property aims to cater to business and leisure travelers, offering amenities such as a specialty restaurant with skyline views, a poolside lounge, a resort-style rooftop pool, a spa, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The hotel will also provide approximately 610 square meters of dedicated meeting and event space, including a ballroom that can accommodate up to 300 people.
SEMAICA, ODD Architects, and Adriana Hoyos Design Studio are leading the hotel’s design, drawing inspiration from the area’s natural elements. The hotel’s location in the heart of the Samborondón district positions it near premier shopping destinations, fine dining options, corporate offices, and medical centers. It is also conveniently located a short drive from José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, enhancing its appeal to international travelers.
Guayaquil, known as Ecuador’s largest city, economic center, and main port, offers a vibrant culture and scenic waterfront surroundings along the shores of the Guayas River. Introducing the InterContinental brand to this city aligns with IHG’s strategy to expand its luxury and lifestyle portfolio in significant markets.
This new development is part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ broader expansion in the Americas, which includes recent openings such as the InterContinental Indianapolis in Indiana and InterContinental Presidente Monterrey in Mexico. Other planned openings include InterContinental Real Lima Miraflores in Peru, InterContinental Orlando in Florida, and properties in Turks & Caicos and Grenada in the Caribbean.
The InterContinental brand, a pioneer in the international luxury hotel market, currently operates 229 hotels globally with an additional 104 properties in the pipeline as of March 31, 2025.
